Hundreds of ISIS sleeper cells have been set up across Europe and are waiting to be activated, according to a former member of the terror group.
ISIS defector Abu Khaled said the leadership had decided to adopt a new strategy after losing thousands of fighters in Syria and Iraq.
Last year up to 3,000 foreign fighters were flooding into Syria every day but the number of recruits has now dwindled to around 50 a day.
Khaled said ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi had now ordered jihadists to carry on the fight at home.
He hopes to spark murder and mayhem across the continent, including the UK.
He told journalist Michael Weiss that ISIS wanted “people to stay in their countries, kill citizens and blow up buildings... The most important thing for IS now is to try and make sleeper cells all over the world.”
He said the network had lost 5,000 fighters in one battle in Syria alone - as Kurds fought for the town of Kobane.
