Twelve Stars

In our recent discussions on the voted departure of Britain from the European Union, we mentioned the fact that the EU flag consists of the circle of twelve stars. The number of nations that are presently member of the EU is twenty eight, that number would of course include Britain until the final action is taken to separate. The twelve stars therefore, are not intended to indicate the number of nations, but rather is a symbol of a theological position held by the Church of Rome. The Catholic News Service EWTN, in one of its question and answer segments state the following:

Answer by Fr. John Echert on 12/10/2003: |
The first level of "proof" would be the literal interpretation of the text itself, in which we see that this Woman gives birth to a Son, Whom the Dragon wishes to destroy. All commentators agree that the Son if Jesus Christ--and the Dragon is explicitly identified as Satan--therefore it is absolutely reasonable to assume that the Woman who gave birth to Jesus Christ MUST BE Mary, the Mother of our Lord. |
That is Church of Rome’s theological position. The question then must be asked, is this the same twelve stars that sit upon the European Union Flag? Published on the Vatican Insider Website LASTAMPA on October 22, 2012 is the following statement:
VATICAN INSIDER The symbol of Europe was conceived by a Catholic and tomorrow, for the first time, the statue of Our Lady of Fatima will be carried past the EU Parliament building Our Lady of Fatima comes to Strasbourg. The twelve stars on the EU flag are a homage to her and yet this will be her first “visit” to the political headquarters of the EU. Tomorrow at 10 am, the statue of the Virgin Mary will be brought to the cathedral of the city that symbolizes European technocracy, by a group of pilgrims from all across the continent. The statue is also expected to come past the European Parliament building. Arsène Heitz did not reveal the symbol’s biblical origin (he only did so later on), but claimed the number twelve was meant to symbolize ancient wisdom, a “symbol of completeness”. This interpretation stuck and the number was confirmed in the constitutional treaty. So the European flag has a powerful Christian and Marian significance. Tomorrow Mary will “take back” the EU. |
We have retained the link so that you may read the article for yourself; notice the final sentence in the above quotation: “Tomorrow Mary will “take back” the EU.” Mary’s “appearances are not restricted to Europe, however. Dave Hunt in his book entitled “A Woman Rides the Beast” says:
“Time magazine reports there have been so many sightings of the "Virgin Mary" around the world that "the late 20th century has become the age of the Marian pilgrimage" to the many shrines established to commemorate these appearances. There are 937 Marian shrines in France alone. From 1961 to 1965 there were about 2000 visitations to northwest Spain's village of Garabandal accompanied by occultic phenomena and apocalyptic messages to the world. In 1983 hundreds of Palestinian Arabs "saw the Virgin Mary" near Bethlehem, Israel. She has appeared in every corner of the world: There is also Dozule ... and Kibeho in Rwanda ... apparitions of Our Lady at Akita in Japan ... apparitions in Chile, in Australia and in Poland ... in Canada ... San Damiano in Assisi, Italy, Cairo ... Amsterdam, New York, etc..” Dave Hunt, “A Woman Rides the Beast” page 285.
Satan is indeed gathering his forces, assigning locations and responsibilities. The final spiritual battle is about to begin. It cannot and will not be long now. God’s children must put on the whole armor of God.
“Put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high [places]. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” Ephesians 6: 11-17.
