The Power of a Positive Explosion

Yesterday, I came across an article written by Mr. Sam Gerrans, an English writer who works as a translator, counselor and activist. He also has a professional background in media, strategic communications and technology. The article is entitled: 'America is a Bomb Waiting to Explode' and was published on October 18, 2015. His article described what he saw as the present condition of the United States of America. He says that America is in decline, and gives some important reasons why this is.

When you read his article, you’ll realize that he’s actually describing the decline of America as a super power. But as I read the article, I discovered that there were issues that spoke to the condition of humanity today. First, the shrinkage of individual family farming, the pervasive urge to pursue the urban lifestyle, even when located in the suburbs, the persistent use of narcotics, and the absolute decline in morals.

Mr. Gerrans’ use of Semtex as an example of the explosive nature of the problem is also compelling. Semtex is a general-purpose plastic explosive containing RDX and PETN. It is used in commercial blasting, demolition, and in certain military applications. Mr. Gerrans says this about Semtex when comparing it with dynamite:

“Semtex is different. You can drop it. You can throw it. You can put it in the fire. Nothing will happen. Nothing until you put the right detonator in it, that is.”

While the example of Semtex can be used as Mr. Gerrans used it, to warn concerning the possibility of coming destruction, I am drawn to the idea that Semtex can also be a symbol of what can happen when the right motivation is applied. When we learn how to be self sufficient, when we begin to utilize the simple gifts of life and share with others the fruits of our labor. Then the explosion is positive and powerful. When we teach our children the true graces of character, this will be the Semtex difference.

As the days go by and the changes expand, the family gets stronger and wiser. The neighborhood develops a new attitude. If this could be the change that fills the land, then the nation would truly be strong. When the country began, its foundation was based upon a conviction. They were driven by a desire to experience a freedom of conscience that did not exist in Europe.

They were in a weak position when the American Revolution began. They had a hastily organized, untrained army and a small navy. Their weaknesses were far more obvious than their strengths. But they were protected by a power far greater than man. Their protest against the corruption of the Papacy was accompanied by the leadership and protection of Angels. The strength of the nation was not based upon military strength, but upon faith and trust. They won a battle then that numerically, they were not supposed to win. We can do the same.
