A New Beginning

We live in a world of uncertainty. We have invested so much time and energy in that which has become our obsession, that when we discover that our hopes and dreams might fail, we often experience a catastrophic event. Many settle for that which they see as the only possibility. Others surrender to the forces that surround and become a part of the muddy stream. Some lose their way entirely, allowing themselves to be used by others who, themselves disappointed, find solace in the abuse of others. Some end their lives in an awful display of anger and remorse.

Moments that are often considered successful produce the kind of consequences that expose a lack of careful consideration and preparation. The rich are filled with sadness; the powerful are prisoners of anger, the beautiful demand to be worshiped and the talented exchange their gifts for worthless fame and fortune. Each group pretends that is the way they planned it. They defend their position, refusing to pursue the original dream for fear of total failure or exposure.

Some spend beyond their means, others hoard in fear. Some blissfully declare that life comes only once, others fixate upon the future. Each position is held with resolute purpose, as if each knows something that every other group does not. Quiet conviction rules the day, until some other unforeseen event occurs, loss of job, sickness, divorce or death of a loved one, and then the whole world changes again. This time, for some, there are not many alternatives, for some, there are no options.

Perhaps the real investment should be made above. The real security rests within the arms of Him who made us, houses us, feeds us, strengthens us, and protects from harm and danger. I do not suggest that we should shrink from responsible activity. School, work, a healthful diet, and exercise should all engage our life schedule. Dependence, confidence, faith and trust must however, be placed in God.

Regardless of your present circumstance, you can find that rest within you desire so much. Tomorrow can be a better day, a completely different day, if you redirect your thinking. The greatest problem that you face right now can begin to be resolved. I’m sure you trust yourself. But if you would honestly look within, you would have to admit that you have not been able to resolve the difficulties that you have encountered. Self trust seems awesome as an idea. It would appear obvious that you should be able to trust YOU. Yet, close examination would reveal that is YOU that has gotten you into the difficulties that you face.

So suppose we try another way. Why not try someone who is absolutely trustworthy. Someone who has never broken a promise: someone who has never failed, at anything, at anytime, with anyone. Your future begins to sound more hopeful already. God is willing to have you prove Him. Ask him, see what he says. You will find that the darkness will fade, and light will shine through. Alternatives will reveal themselves, you will begin again.
