Genetically Modified Characters

The image of God is not easily erased from man. The creator’s power is of such magnitude that degrading of that image is dependent upon the corruption of the will. The combination of mind, body and soul is the profound gift of The Word. The devil clearly understands the complexity of the journey from righteousness to depravity. The destructive influences at first appear to be uplifting. The seduction is layered across the experiences of life. No one avenue is pursued. In every pathway, the enemy seeks to debase the integrity of the will.
On May 2, 2011, psychiatrist, Emily Deans M.D, in an article entitled, “Diet and Violence” reports that youth today commit violent criminal acts in part because of poor nutrition. She gives the findings of research done by Oxford nutrition and criminology researcher, Bernard Gesch. Here is a quote from her report.
In this study, 231 (young, male, adult, prisoner) volunteers agreed to receive a daily vitamin, mineral, and essential fatty acid supplementation or placebo. The average length of the supplementation was about 142 days, and a number of measures were taken before and during the active phase, including psychological testing, reports of violent acts, and reports of disciplinary action. Prisoners were randomized in part based on baseline disciplinary status and their progress in the "prison regime." The results revealed that those receiving the supplements committed a noticeably reduced number of violent and disciplinary incidents, compared with those who were given the placebo. Consider the implications, then across the board. The purposeful manipulation of diet, not only has proven to degrade the physical and mental faculties, but produce and influence external attitudes and behavior.
Given a healthy diet, the individual is able to maintain clarity of thought and control of the will. Fed a poor nutritional diet, however, the mind is befuddled, and the will is compromised. Though this undernourished condition may appear simply accidental or unfortunate, the result can be catastrophic. The evil one who seeks to destroy the image of God in man awaits just such a state of mind and body. Gradually, the preferences of the will are diverted, and the character is rewritten.
But the enemy has found a more direct and emphatic way to fix his image upon mankind. The food we eat was created and planned by God. Its genetic structure is carefully balanced to meet the needs of the body mind and spirit. To genetically engineer the fruits and vegetables, pretending that the change will ultimately provide a longer lasting supply of “much needed foods” covertly overlooks the fact that once the genes that have been inserted in the foods , no amount of cooking will remove them.
There are many who have spoken regarding the health implications of GMOs. These issues have been clearly defined. Today, I speak to the transformation of character that takes place when these modified foods are eaten, digested and absorbed into our genetic structure, resulting in an almost un-detectable distortion of who we are. Our emotions are re-written, our habits gradually shift, and our choices slowly reverse themselves. Our purpose in life weakens, until we meet our new selves for the first time, without even an awareness of the change. The image of God is not easily erased from man, but the enemy of souls tirelessly pursues the task.
